Solar
Photovoltaic Panels And How They Work |
|
First
of all if we must dispel the myth that solar
panels don’t work in the UK because of
our weather conditions.
Solar power is a wondrous thing and it works fantastically here
in Britain
Solar panels operate on light not heat
Electricity is created when photons of light (the suns electromagnetic
radiation) hit a solar cell.
This light induces a chemical reaction between two sheets of
silicon contaminated with a conductive solution
Electricity is the bye product of this reaction

A
solar photovoltaic panel is made up of many
solar cells.
Very much like a battery, the more cells in a panel the more
voltage is produced.

The
solar array is fixed to the roof
The DC current created travels down the cable to an inverter.
The inverter converts the power from DC (direct current) in to
AC (alternate current)
AC is the form of electricity our lighting and appliances opperate
on in our homes
Whatever we don't use is fed back into the grid.
